Otranto is a town geographically east of Italy, in particular Palascìa Point, south of the town. Under the nautical conventions, this place is the point of separation between the Ionian and the Adriatic Sea. In the past Otranto was an important messapic, roman, byzantine and aragonese centre. In 2010 the old town was declared a world heritage site. It is also a member of the "Most beautiful villages in Italy" club. The coast is characterized by it’s shallow waters and sandy beaches.
